World First For Carvedilol Medical Symposium Archive (1999)

Roche wished to create an online archive, of a medical symposium held in Barcelona. In 1999 archiving video presentations on the internet, was still within it’s infancy and was generally very basic in it's execution. Roche indicated that the online audience would be doctors from all over the globe with the majority having very slow connection speeds.

Faced with these problems, we set about developing our own solution, as no bespoke systems were available at that time. After extensive research we created a solution that not only allowed the slides to be stored in very small file sizes (1-2K each) but we were also able to scale the slides to full screen while retaining perfect image quality..

This was a world first, as those with very slow connections, were able to download the presentations quickly and view them at exactly the same high quality as those with faster connections. To accomplish this we used the QuickTime media player with embedded Flash files, this early development was recognised by Apple Computer Inc, who named us in their Developers handbook “QuickTime for the Web” more info...

This technique also had another huge advantage, by allowing the presentations to be distributed via CDROM or inserted into PowerPoint presentations. This proved beneficial as in the following year Roche wished to distribute the archive on CDROM as well as the online version. This early development formed the basis of our current ezpresenter™ system.
