Futuristic Teambuilding Game

Motivaction approached us to help with an issue they were having with rotating delegates between activities they were running at team building and motivational events. They had devised a way that this could be done with the use of an interactive game, that could in turn track the whereabouts of delegates plus record team scores, the game would also form the basis for the theme of the events.

The system had to be very flexible, easy to maintain and portable, as it would be necessary to configure, install and network the systems within a matter of hours before any event. Also the system was to be high tech in appearance, but still easy to navigate & understand, as the delegates would be under pressure to complete each task quickly, while still scoring maximum points.

Finally the first event that would use the system would have over 50 computers networked together, and over 500 delegates!

Our first task was to specify the hardware and software that would be necessary to run the quiz, plus keep it within the tight budget. Once this had been agreed, the next task was programming & interface design. Motivaction had produced a thorough storyboard as to the game play but left the actual look and feel entirely to our discretion. Using our past experience or motion picture design, plus past experience of quiz systems we produced an absorbing game with a futuristic look & feel consisting of 3D animations, videos of live actors, interactive graphics and puzzles.

The idea of the eventual game, named "The Matrix", was for the delegates to hack their way through a computer system to crack the inner core and bring down "The Matrix". They would require passwords for the various levels to unlock access points, which the other members of their team would gain in outdoor activities, the better their team did, the better the password, and the more points allocated.

The Matrix" has been a great success for Motivaction, and is still being used on a regular basis since it's launch in August 2000. Due to this success we were commissioned to create a follow up game named Synergy, plus create a specially tailor made version for Dell Computers that was simultaneously played in 22 countries over their corporate intranet.
